on accommodation available on this holiday.
Fair
Isle is Britain's most remote inhabited island.
Enjoy spectacular cliff and
coastal scenery, wild flowers, thousands of seabirds and spring
& autumn migrants. Join in with the Observatory's work of bird
ringing and migrations studies, go on guided walks, see local crafts
such as the famous Fair Isle knitting. Easily accessible by mailboat from Grutness Pier, near Sumburgh (passengers only) on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (2.5 hours) or by plane from Shetland.
A unique holiday experience
for the birder and non birder alike.
There are plans to rebuild the Observatory in 2009, which would involve demolishing the current building and rebuilding on the same site. A decision will be made in March or April 2009. If plans to rebuild proceed, the Observatory will not be available during 2009. A new and upgraded Observatory beckons!
